Privacy Policy
Paws works on your phone. Your photos are analysed on the device, and we don’t collect your personal data. The one exception is a sticker set you buy: the photos it uses are sent to be drawn, and nothing else.
The short version
- Your photos stay on your phone. Paws finds your pets, lines up their eyes and makes movies on the device.
- Except for stickers you buy. To draw a sticker set, the photos it uses (12 at most) go through our server to the image service that draws it. They aren’t stored, and Paws tells you before anything is sent.
- No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking.
- Purchases go through Apple. We never see your payment details.
- You’re in control. You choose which photos Paws can see, and you can reset or delete everything at any time.
1. Your photos
Paws asks for access to your photo library so it can find photos of your dogs and cats and turn them into a movie. To do this it uses Apple’s on-device image analysis to spot animals in your photos, find their eyes, and compare how they look so that photos of the same pet are grouped together.
All of this happens on your iPhone. Your photos, and anything Paws works out from them, are not sent to us or to anyone else, unless you buy a sticker set (below).
You decide how much Paws can see. You can allow your whole library or only photos you select (iOS calls this “Limited Access”), and you can change your mind at any time in Settings › Photos › Paws. Paws only reads photos. The one thing it writes to your library is a movie, and only when you choose Save to Photos.
Sticker sets
A sticker set turns up to 12 photos of one pet into drawn stickers. Before you buy one, Paws shows you those photos and says they will be sent. When you buy it:
- For each sticker, Paws sends a cropped copy of one photo, the art style and the sticker’s mood to our sticker server (run on Cloudflare), together with the App Store’s number for your purchase.
- Our server asks Apple whether that purchase is valid, then passes the photo to the image service we pay to draw stickers, which draws it and sends it back. Under its terms for paid business use, it doesn’t use what we send to train its models. It may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse, then deletes it.
- Our server does not store your photos or the stickers. It keeps only a count of drawings per purchase number, for 60 days, so one purchase can’t be used without limit.
- The finished stickers are saved on your phone. Adding them to WhatsApp, or sharing them, passes them to that app, and its privacy policy applies from there.
The photos are not linked to your name or Apple ID by us, and are not used for anything except drawing your stickers.
2. What is stored on your device
To remember your pets between visits, Paws keeps the following in its private storage on your phone:
- The names you give your pets, and which photos belong to which pet, including your answers when Paws asks “Is this your pet?”.
- Numbers calculated from your photos that help recognise animals. They cannot be turned back into a photo.
- Your choices, such as appearance (light or dark) and which photos you hid from a movie.
- Movies you make, until you save or share them. iOS clears temporary files automatically.
This data is protected by iOS data protection and is not shared with any other app. It is removed when you delete Paws, or when you choose Settings › Reset and rescan everything inside the app.
3. What we collect
Nothing, apart from sticker sets. Paws has no account or sign-in. Apart from the sticker photos described above, it does not send your data to servers run by us or anyone else. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software. It does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites and does not use your advertising identifier.
4. Purchases
Paws is free to download. Saving movies needs one one-time in-app purchase (“Paws Unlock”), and each sticker set is a separate purchase (“Sticker Set”). Apple processes the payment under Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. Paws checks on your device, using Apple’s StoreKit, whether you own the purchase.
5. Sharing your movies
A movie stays on your phone until you share it. When you tap Share, iOS passes the movie to the app or person you pick, and that app’s own privacy policy applies from there. Paws never shares a movie by itself.
6. Children
Paws is not directed at children under 13. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect it from children.
7. Your choices and rights
Because we do not collect or hold personal data about you, there is nothing for us to look up, correct, export or delete. You stay in control through:
- Photo access: Settings › Photos › Paws on your iPhone.
- Your data in the app: Settings › Reset and rescan everything, or delete the app to remove everything it stored.
If you live somewhere with privacy rights (for example the EU, the UK or California) and want to exercise them or ask a question, contact us below.
8. Security
Paws keeps your information on your device and relies on iOS security features, including data protection for the files it stores. We never transmit your photos, so they cannot be intercepted on their way to us.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how Paws handles data, for example by adding an optional account, we will update this page and its date, and tell you in the app before the change applies to you.
